Happy Thanksgiving From The Mandarin Duck

Each of us can find something to be thankful for, often it's our good health and a comfortable home. Family, friends and the kindness of people we meet. A positive attitude is a blessing. At times life will take a bad turn, but a positive attitude can help us navigate through stresses and challenges until things get better. And ... be thankful for the small stuff!

New York City's newest resident, the Mandarin Duck, with his colorful feathers and bright pink beak, is a native of China. Nobody knows how he got to the pond in Central Park. Did he escape, or did someone put him there? He gets along with the other ducks, doesn't seem to mind the cold and has made himself at home. A gift to the city, and we love him!

Like you, today I will likely stuff myself with turkey, dressing and healthy sides including: green beans, asparagus, carrots, butternut squash, cranberries and of course, pumpkin pie. I like fresh and  healthy foods, so never feel deprived or guilty when eating plenty of them.

From our home to yours, Happy Thanksgiving all!🦃

  1. Dearest Debbie,
We have many days for feeling grateful and it is well worth celebrating once a year this Thanksgiving Day.
Trusting that yours was a lovely one with plenty of good food.
We got treated by our best friends who include us a 'family' and we had a big family enjoying warmth and food.
Love that Mandarin duck! Exotic addition.
Our bathroom is shiny and done, cleaned it on Wednesday after they'd installed the custom ordered glass door and sides. So happy with it and the painter had finished the hallway while I was tutoring at the local Technical College. Bedroom, hallway and office got really touched up, beside the bathroom ceiling, walls, doors and solid oak shutters and window. So much for being grateful for.
Yesterday I've filed away 326 scanned letters and today 269. Remains 208 for tomorrow and 140 for Sunday and DONE. Treasures from Mom and others...
    Hugs,
    Mariette

    1. Oh my gosh, you have been a busy bee. But what satisfaction to get so much done! A well deserved holiday. Many people say Thanksgiving is their favorite holiday. Likely because it is spend with family over a special meal, and so far, without the commercialism and the trappings of Christmas. (People can scale back Christmas too, if they desire. But, It's not as easy with children, who are aware of their playmates' gifts, so parents must strike a balance.)

This Thanksgiving I was a bit nostalgic for all the people who are no longer with us, as well as, being grateful for the big and small stuff. For sure LIFE is good, but bittersweet sometimes.

  2. The Mandarin Duck is just so beautiful!! My husband loves to run in the Park and will be doing so starting in January when we come up for our opera weekends. I will tell him to be on the lookout for this gorgeous little creature.

When we moved to our current home, which backs up to a park and lake, there was a beautiful swan that would swim back and forth. He was the first thing I saw when I opened my bedroom blinds every morning. Unfortunately, a car ran him over a few years ago. I miss him terribly. He was my "Lohengrin."

    Lovely post, Debra.

    Cheers, M-T

    1. Oh, poor thing! My grandmother lived in Germany. Her house was a block away from a river. I remember watching a family of swans everyday swimming in it. What beautiful birds they are. I can understand you ... getting attached to Lohengrin -- let's give him that lovely name. :)

I hope your husband sees the Mandarin Duck on his runs.
