May the freedom that Lady Liberty represents live on for many centuries and eventually encompass all the peoples around the globe. Those of us who are free should always think about others who are not and do what we can for them. Hopefully, America will eternally be a beacon of hope for all, despite some missteps and trying times.
Enyoy the family, food and festivities! Happy Birthday, America!🎉🇺🇸ðŸŒ

ReplyDeleteThank you, dear Trish! I saw the fireworks from afar tonight from a park uptown, then walked home to saw them again (as the display gets repeated) on TV. In earlier years I have gone downtown where they can be seen up close, but then you have the ordeal of getting home, sometimes not being able to board crowded buses for an hour or so. Having done this a couple of times, I'm content with seeing the fireworks from afar. Regardless of uptown or downtown, I have always found the crowd to be mellow, not wild or crazy.
DeleteThank you so much for the visit. I don't know how you found me but I am delighted that you did.
ReplyDeleteMy pleasure. Thanks, Katie, for your visit as well!
DeleteDearest Debra,
ReplyDeleteJIT = Just In Time for wishing you a Happy Independence Day!
Love your wording here above; well written and meaningful.
Sending you hugs,
Mariette
Hope you had a good 4th of July in Atlanta, Mariette! There's lots of good cooking there!
DeleteHugs right back to you!
Debra, we live a good 2.5 hours south of Atlanta... As for restaurant food, I cannot enjoy it due to my CKD as I need a low sodium diet.
DeleteHugs,
Mariette
Good that you know and can avoid what does you harm. :)
DeleteWhat a lovely post. Our 4th of July was quiet -- just the two of us. Sadly, we had to say goodbye to our darling black and white cat Allegra on the 1st of July, so it was not a very festive holiday. She was only seven. Much too young.
ReplyDeleteMy next big fête nationale will be on the 14th of July to celebrate my other country. Wouldn't be who I am without them both.
Cheers, M-T
Oh, I'm sorry to hear the sad news about your cat! Never easy to lose a pet.
DeleteIn Manhattan, there is a block fair outside the French Institute Alliance Francaise - on East 60th street that I have passed through a few times. Friends and I have sometimes sat for wine and clams on Bastille Day. I wish someone in Manhattan would throw a big party to celebrate! But I notice people are entertaining less ... as am I. Perhaps we get tired of the fuss! I am hosting small gatherings (of one or two) as opposed to the dinner parties (6 - 8 in a New York apartment of the past. I had to co-host if I went larger, as I always hated being invited to the parties pacted with so many people guests could not sit down, nor easily get to the food or drink. I don't know what people were thinking to host those!
