Ballet Slippers |
Queen Elizabeth II wears Essie Nail Polish in Ballet Slippers. It is reported to be the only color the Queen will wear.
You never see members of the British royal family in wild or bold shades. It is customary for them to wear only demure nail hues.
I, too, have an understated signature nail polish color. For years I have worn Nicka K in Seashell. It has a subtle incandescent glow that people often compliment. Another benefit: Unlike darker colors, chips aren't noticeable. I wonder if that's one of the reasons the royal family favors the calm colors also. I mean, nobody has time to do nails more than once a week. Not to mention, it's too repeatative!
Lately, I like natural, short nails sans nail polish as much as my signature polish. While I still wear nail polish sometimes, I worry about all the chemicals in the beauty products we use.
Allure |
Meanwhile, Catherine, the Duchess of Cambridge, has her own signature shade: Essie Nail Polish in Allure.
Essie is a wallet-friendly drugstore brand. Customers say it's chip resistant. The polish is formulated to look subtle, feminine and classic, not flamboyant and flashy. Not that there's anything wrong with that. Some people wear daring colors well. It just requires more maintenance.
Do you wear a signature nail color? Subtle or bold?

I don't think I have ever seen Essie nail polish here, but perhaps I am not looking in the right places! I love the colour of Ballet Slippers and also Seashell, and would love to find them. As for wearing polish, I wear it on my toe nails during the Summer, and give the nails a rest for half the year. Like you, I have concerns about the chemicals, and do not use it on my fingernails these days.
ReplyDeleteIn my 20s I wore a darker polish called "All That Jazz" - a dark cardinal red with glitter highlights in it -- very pretty, and my nails were always polished. I believe the nail polish had more harmful ingredients back then also. Now I'm just like you, Trish. Mostly my toes in the summer months of sandals.
DeleteDearest Debbie,
ReplyDeleteHad never heard of Essie nail polish but I like the bare nude color better than the ballet slippers.
I've used Yves Saint Laurent and Chanel nail polish and once I asked a flight attended what lovely 'brand' nail polish she was wearing. She wrote it down for me and I found it. I'm more for the nude towards orange tones. Not red and certainly no green, blue or any other dark color. You look like a vampire wearing those... My finger nails I seldom polish, used to do that more when I was younger. Now only in summer my toe nails.
Hugs,
Mariette
I know what you mean, Mariette. I, too, like to look natural, but polished with makeup and nail polish. The more natural, the less maintenance. That alone makes the case for demure shades.
