Fashion Hendricks' 5 Must-Have Products For Summer Hair

Today we are in for a treat! Fashion Hendricks, celebrity hairstylist and owner of Manhattan's popular NYC Weave Studio, is sharing 5 of her favorite hair products for the summer with the readers of THE SAVVY SHOPPER.

Ms. Henricks is passionate about making clients look and feel beautiful! Her trendy salon has glowing reviews from tons of returning customers; and the distinguished hair stylist has appeared on television shows, such as Jerseylicious, The Nate Berkus Show and Tyler Perry's Meet The Browns.

Here are Fashion's 5 picks to tame and style your tresses all summer long. They are suitable for every hair texture to counter the elements of the dog days ahead, including: sun, humidity and heat.

1) Watermelon Love Drops (by Fashion Hair Solutions) - A humidity frizz buster and heat protectant. With a light scent of watermelon, it adds a clear shine to dry hair. Won't weigh hair down and protects hair from sun damage. Fashion says, be sure "to bring this little bottle of awesomeness to the beach!"

2) It's A 10 Minute Styling Serum (available at any drugstore) - The serum protects colored hair, seals the cuticle and resists humidity.

3) Shaper Plus (by Sebastian) - This is Fashion's go to light hair spray, which she says is a must! Even after lots of brushing, this light spray still holds a style!

4) Bee Mine Luscious Balanced Cream Moisturizer (by Bee Mine Natural & Organics) - This moisturizer will single handily restore your hair to good health "after abuse from the sun, heat styling and saltwater," according to Fashion: "It repairs ends and strengthens hair from root to tip."

5) Got2b Ultra Glued Invincible Styling Gel (available at drugstores, Walmart and Target) - For vertical styles and smooth, sleek ponytails. Fashion likes this gel because "it's not sticky and won't disappoint. It keeps every strain in place! Talk about taming, this one is it!"

Well, lucky SAVVY SHOPPERS, you now have the wisdom of a hair professional! These hair products really work ... without breaking the bank. Many thanks, Ms. Fashion Hendricks, for your awesome recommendations! Here's to a summer of good hair days!

Demarson For Edgy Fashion Jewelry

Demarson New York has been featured in Vogue, WWD, Harper's Bazaar, NBC's Today Show, and now finally on THE SAVVY SHOPPER. As the song goes, How lucky can you get?😁 Of course, launching a blooming jewelry line is the result of having a vision and experience in the industry combined with hours of hard work and a good publicist.

The retailer's founders, Jason Crantz and Marcela Ponce, design modern, bold, edgy pieces that look beautifully crafted. I love the aesthetics and sophistication of the pieces, yet I caution all savvy shoppers against buying a collection of fashion jewelry. If a piece speaks to you and you know you'll get lots of wear and compliments out of it, go ahead and treat yourself. Some of the jewelry I've posted gracing the post you'll find discounted under the website's Sale Archive Tab.

Still, in lieu of collecting fashion jewelry, it's smarter to save up for fine jewelry, 14k or 18k gold, set with your favorite precious gemstones: diamonds, emeralds, rubies, or sapphires.

Although more expensive, all you really need are a few pieces of fine jewelry that you'll wear time and again over decades. For jewelry lovers, it's worth saving up to buy.

Fashion jewelry is usually less expensive than fine jewelry and yet not dirt cheap. With fashion jewelry, you pay for the design but don't get real gold or real gemstones. However, there may be places where wearing fine jewelry would make you a target, making the adornment of fashion jewelry safer.

At times 925 sterling silver jewelry -- also a precious metal and sold as fine jewelry -- is cheaper than fashion jewelry and is by far more affordable than gold. That said ...

Demarson's popularity with fashion editors is understandable. Its cutting-edge earrings, rings, bracelets, and necklaces are eye-catching. The brand stands out. Upscale stores like Nieman Marcus and Nordstrom carry the line.

Fashion Jewelry I Like

Photo: Maevery

Let's begin this subject with the truth. Nowadays I don't buy fashion jewelry, yet bought it in my 20s. In my 20s I just needed something to wear daily for work and a few social events. Fashion jewelry was what I could afford. I also thought I had to change my jewelry often ... I don't feel that way today.

As I got older I decided to curate what I own: Possess fewer yet better pieces of jewelry that I love. So nowadays I don't do quantity. I decide what it is I love and buy only it. So I save up my money for a few more expensive pieces of fine (real gold with real gems) jewelry. In other words, I curate; get it; then stop buying. I still look, but am slow to pull the trigger!

However, not all my readers are at this point in their lives. Moreover, fine jewelry doesn't make everyone's heart flutter.

Like designer handbags and shoes, jewelry is never an investment. All 3 examples are luxury buys. We never need luxury, we buy luxury because we like material things. Not everybody wishes to spend their money on fine jewelry just like not everybody wants to spend their money on a Hermès handbag.

So for those readers, I can recommend 3 fashion jewelry retailers I truly like and would wear if I still bought fashion jewelry. For your money, you get substantial gold plated pieces with small, real diamonds and precious stones that are sturdy and pretty. Often I see the brands promoted on YouTube channels by vloggers who are gifted them by the companies, which is a common, acceptable practice on YouTube. None of the 3 merchants sought me out, so my spotlight on their goods is independent and unbiased. Despite my overall bias against fashion jewelry, I love the creations of the following 3 companies

1) Ana Luisa - The company is carbon neutral, meaning they give back everything they take from nature to make their stylish, smart, modern and durable jewelry.
2) Spiritual Gloss - They offer fair pricing for dainty 14k gold and diamond fine jewelry by cutting out the middle man. The heavier cuban chain (above right👆) is 14k gold plated brass. All 14k or 18k gold cuban chains are pricer, costing thousands of dollars. Think: Budget-friendly for an expensive look that won't tarnish!

3) Maevery - Contemporary, chic, classic and wearable designs, the metals are 14k and 18k gold plated. Another place to get rich looks for less.

Perhaps you travel, ruin things, or don't wear expensive jewelry to certain places. When going the fashion jewelry route in life, what lovely, affordable and solid pieces that won't fall apart anytime soon!

A Difference In Style: Classic, High Fashion And Trendy

1, 2 or 3 ... Guess Scarlett's style?
Clearly there are style differences between classic, high fashion and trendy. You know it when you see it, but how do you define them?

In a nutshell ... and using photos from the same event, the Golden Globes 2020, let's explore a few differences between the 3 styles. Think of the following as your cheat sheet:

Go here to see the photo credits from CNN Style of the Golden Globe dresses used as examples.

1. Classic style is timeless. Simple, elegant, understated, abiding. The look has a lasting quality that never dates, or goes out of style. A dress you could wear in 1950 or 2020.
*****👚👠👗*****

2. High fashion style is custom-made-and fitted. Traditionally high fashion, or haute couture is expensive. One of a kind garments hand stitched using the finest fabrics. Nowadays they are the dresses you often see on a runway, or television awards' show. They are meant to be noticed or to surprise, yet often you can't wear the dresses anywhere else as they are impractical, and as a society, we've become very practical. Frequently the fun just doesn't transfer off the runway.

3. Trendy style is what's popular today, the latest fad, what collectively everybody is wearing for a duration of time. The up-to-the-minute mode can range from style [mini or maxi dresses, skinny jeans] and quirkiness [underwear as outerwear, or short pants] to fabric [faux fur, velvet, lycra], and color [4054 classic blue in 2020], or patterns [like Royal Stuart, Prince of Wales, and Houndstooth plaids].

*****👚👠👗*****

At times the styles can overlap ... and how fabulous when they do! You can be on trend and still classic, or classic with a touch of high fashion. Personally I strive for it!! Take some lessons from the runway and make a style your own. Isn't fashion a blast!

Fashion's Night Out

Madison Avenue hosts Fashion's Night Out tomorrow for a second year in a row.  Stores stay open until 11pm and offer live music, champagne, h'orderves and, of course, the latest fashion to the public.  Some have reductions of 20%, or more.  Other events include photo booths, games with free giveaways and celebrity appearances.  You will find tons of style at every price point.  Conceived in 2009 by Vogue editor, Anna Wincour, FNO is fast becoming a global event in major cities.  It's also the perfect time to visit New York City with all your fashion forward friends!

Update, September 12:  I joined the party on the Upper East Side and was surprised by how good the food and drinks were: Champagne at more stores than I care to mention and interesting cocktails at others.  Snacks included wrapped tuna squares, hickory almonds, tiny containers of flavored wild rice, bites of filet mignon on bread and dollops of red velvet cake with icing (at Ivanka Trump's shop).  I loved the friendliness, the festive atmosphere of listening to the in-store musicians and outdoor bands, walking past the window dancers and open-air mimes, and seeing very bony, super models on the arms of famous designers.  Valentino had a celebrity poker game happening. You could play musical chairs at Barney's and ping pong at several shops.  And the new fall clothes are gorgeous!  I had fun.

Trend Alert: Chunky Necklaces

Matthew Williams for Givenchy
While researching upcoming jewelry trends, I stumbled upon another craze predicted to come our way in 2022: Chunky Necklaces, but to be fair, chunky necklaces were also predicted to be a fad in 2020 as I reported here, so where have today's fashion editors been? I can only guess that with everybody staying home during COVID the trend got delayed until now. I also think regardless of what year it is, a chunky necklace is always timeless as a statement piece.🙂

It's a great reason to do a roundup of several beautiful and very wearable Chunky Necklaces designed by Givenchy's American creative director, Mathew Williams.

Associates say Mr. Williams is calm, nice, and collaborative ... always asking his crew what they think of new designs. Many people who have worked with him say he really cares about the work, the design and is a bit of a Renaissance man who brings his interests of art and science to the worktable. He researches fabrics, materials, and their origins.

The left and right necklaces are available at Neiman Marcus. Many of the Givenchy necklaces come in silver, gold, or 2-tone.

Mr. Williams judges fashion by whether or not he would wear it. This American brings a touch of European urbanism to the House of Givenchy. The chunky padlock necklace is his creation. Givenchy's newest Creative Director "likes the idea that fashion can give us some sense of escape, beauty and ''imagination of the future,'' yet he also embraces ''tradition ... warmth, comfort, ease ... security ... (out of) knowing there's so much chaos around us.'' His work is also practical and accessible, with a trace of softness -- all of which are sure to become his signature at Givenchy. What I love about the chunky necklaces is there's something clean about them, and you would wear them off the runway as the design isn't over-the-top, excessive, or ridiculous. The top necklace is gorgeous! With Matthew Williams at the helmGivenchy is the fashion house to watch!
